Town Green application

Urban Gravesham have just applied to Kent County Council to have all of St Andrew’s Gardens (both the lower bit by the river and the upper bit above the Clarendon) declared as a town  green. If successful this could effectively stop the tower from being built, as it would be an offence to build on the land.

The application sets out to prove that a significant number of the local population has used St Andrew’s Gardens has been used for lawful sports and pastimes without hindrance and by right for the last 20 years. If this is accepted by Kent County Council then the land will be designated a town green and protected from development in perpetutity.

Although we have been able to support the application with evidence from a number of local residents that the land has been used for lawful sports and pastimes by local people for in excess of 20 years, the more evidence we have the more likely our application is to succeed.  If you have recollections of using the St Andrews  Gardens area for sport, recreation or leisure activity over the last twenty or so years, please contact us urgently.
